Tasty Brazilian Truffles

Brigadeiros are small chocolate treats similar to truffles and originate in Brazil. Popular at birthday parties across Brazil and Portugal, these delicious sweets are so so easy to make! With only 4 ingredients and less than an hour to make, you'll be enjoying your brigadeiros in no time!

makes: 24 preparation: 20 minutes total time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 tin of condensed milk

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder

  • chocolate sprinkles

Method:

  1. Mix the condensed milk and the butter in a pan over medium heat until fully combined

  2. Slowly mix in the cocoa powder and stir until the mixture thickens up

  3. Fill a bowl with cold water and drop in a tsp of the mixture. Wait for 30 seconds and grab the dough with your fingers. If it melts in your hands it is not ready yet but if it holds its shape you can take the pan off the heat

  4. Pour onto a greased plate and let it cool to room temperature

  5. Spread the chocolate sprinkles in a bowl or plate

  6. Once the dough has cooled down, grease your hands with butter and roll it into small balls

  7. Roll the brigadeiro balls in the sprinkles and serve them on a plate or in small paper cases

Notes:

  1. You can use either butter or other fat spreads

  2. Both cocoa powder and chocolate powder work

  3. You can also use sugar sprinkles, but chocolate ones give it a much better texture

  4. Refrigerate the brigadeiros until serving so they hold their shape better
